SAML is an XML-based standard for user authentication across Internet domains. It is often used as a standard to implement single sign-on that allows you to sign in to multiple services with a single sign-in.
OpenID Connect (OIDC) is an authentication standard developed by the OpenID Foundation, based on OAuth2. OIDC is a combination of OAuth2 and several extensions, aimed at providing a simple and secure user authentication solution for web, mobile and API applications.
Example: I need 10 accounts on 10 different websites, I would be crazy if I had to create 10 accounts -> log in with google instead.
OpenID Connect (OIDC) is an authentication protocol that allows applications to verify the identity of a user based on the authentication provided by an identity provider (IdP). Google is one of the many identity providers that support OIDC.

SAML is more complex than OIDC. SAML uses XML to exchange identity data and suitable for businesses requiring high security. OIDC is simpler to implement because it outsources encryption to HTTPS or SSL, which is already integrated on both the client and server sides.
